Legacy in a contemporary key
Founded in 1873 by a family of tailors, Casa Pujol, an emblematic shop in the town of Reus, celebrates the brand’s legacy while superimposing a new contemporary vision. Through curved surfaces, materials with strong character, the architectural articulation of light and a deep blue colour, the concept has evolved to give the building a global brand character.
In Francesc Rifé’s project, the two sides, the new and the old, coexist in balance from the moment the visitor crosses the threshold. Curves, a recurring element in the intervention, define the route through the areas dedicated to men, women, tailoring and workshop. These forms not only soften the visual and physical transition, but are also applied as a detail in the garment display shelves, reinforcing the artisanal character of the space.
Once inside, two vertical voids articulate the spatial communication: a light patio and the staircase. The natural light patio is expanded to bathe the space from the upper floor to the ground floor, illuminating the counter and recovering areas that were previously dark.
The staircase, a protected architectural element, is transformed into a central piece through a lighting design that conceives it as an artistic installation. Taking advantage of the irregularities of the party wall, the play of vertical, horizontal and transversal light not only accentuates its presence, but turns the defect into a virtue.
Both vertical voids, finished in a projected petrol blue, generate a visual and material connection that runs through all the floors, unifying the proposal and reinforcing the new narrative of the space.
